Decorating for holidays doesn’t have to be expensive! Sometimes as something as simple as a small American flag can make a big impact. I wanted to share with you some fun ways that you can use these flags to decorate around your home. You can find these flags at the dollar store, Target, Amazon, and craft stores.
Centerpieces and Vases
If you’re having people over to celebrate or would like a centerpiece at a table for people to grab dessert from, tucking some small American flags in vases of flowers or even just mason jars gives it a patriotic feel. You can have the flowers red, white, and blue or paint the mason jars in red, white, and blue. Or you can just put them in the decorations you already have in your home.
Here’s a fun 4th of July centerpiece I made with flowers and pinwheels. You can also add small American flags to them.
Patriotic Banner
This American flag banner from Tee Diddly Dee is so cute! She uses small American flags, burlap fabric, and jute string to make a banner. She even soaks the flags in tea to give them an aged look. Then just sew the flags and the burlap onto the string and you have a super cute banner!
Tablesetting
I love how simple this is! Just write a name on a label and tie it to a small American flag. Then lay it on a plate or where they’re sitting. Simple, but fun and festive!
Patriotic Candles
Another simple craft are these Patriotic candles. You don’t even need to buy mason jars if you can find some around your home. My kids LOVE pickles. I hate when they eat them because they seriously smell like pickles all day. Anyway, most pickle jars are made of glass (like our favorite Milwaukee pickles!). Soak the jars in soap to get out the pickle smell and remove the label. Place a flag, sand, and a candle in the jar and you’re done! So cute!
American flag wreath
You can make this super cute wreath for only about $20! Just run to your local craft store and grab a wreath, flags, cotton stems, berry stems, ribbon, and grapevine wire. Assemble and hang it on a door hanger and you’re good to go! You can check out the full tutorial at The American Patriette.
Mod Podge it
My last craft for you is to mod podge the flags to wooden blocks or small canvases that you can put up around your home. You can even use this mod podge sparkle! I didn’t even know that was a thing!? I think I need some… There’s some more craft ideas here.
One of the things I love about the American flag is that it has bold colors that will pop in most home decor. So touches of red, white, and blue throughout your home will look amazing! So get decorating!
