I have found that I’m a sucker for love stories. Not the steamy romance type, but the good, clean, true love type stories. As I’ve had the chance to read and review some good love stories lately, I find that I usually read them in about 3 days and just can’t get enough of them! And this book is no exception.
Huckleberry Hill
by Jennifer Beckstrand
Set in an Amish Community in Wisconsin, Huckleberry Hill is about two grandparents who feel it is their duty in life to get their grandchildren married. So Anna Helmuth (the grandmother) invites Lia to their home for the summer to help around the home. Little does Lia know that Anna’s grandson Moses lives nearby and often comes over to help his grandfather on their farm. And let the matchmaking games begin!
You will just love Anna and Felty Helmuth. They are the sweet grandparents that you always wish you had (or maybe you have them, my husband does!) who still love and support each other after all these years. Quirks and all. The type of grandparents I want to be.
And you will quickly get wrapped into the love story between Lia and Moses. Tall “unattractive” Lia feels she will never marry as her sister has always been the sparkle in her father’s eyes. And Moses is very good looking and knows it. He also owns his own cheese factory and his heart has been locked by someone else. It seems as though they will never work out and their story takes unexpected twists and turns that make you read chapter after chapter! I sure did!
And I love learning more about the Amish Community. Their way of life seems so simple – away from technology and media. I find it so interesting! It reminds me of the 1800s and I love it! You almost forget that it’s a modern book and then an ambulance shows up and you realize, oh yeah! There are people who still live like this!
Jennifer is a great writer and you will quickly dive into the drama in the book – a broken leg, broken hearts, midwifery, and a selfish sister.
So if you’re looking for a great Amish love story, definitely get Huckleberry Hill! And the best part is Anna and Felty will be at it again in Jennifer’s second book Huckleberry Summer that’s coming out in June. So excited!
You can find Huckleberry Hill on Amazon.

Alexis,
Thank you so much for your very nice review. Anna and Felty are my idea of the perfect grandparents–fun, feisty, and a little bit eccentric. And I can't resist a romantic story and a happy ending.
