I saw these cute witch hats made with cookies and kisses on Pinterest and I thought they would be adorable on cupcakes. And I was right! 🙂
My kids love cupcakes, Halloween, and helping me in the kitchen so I thought making these cute witch cupcakes would be a fun treat for them. They loved it and were super excited to help put it all together!
All of my kids helped make the cupcakes, my 19 month old helped me make the frosting, and then all of my kids helped me make the witch hats. I put it all together and then they helped me eat them. 🙂
Witch Cupcakes
Here’s what you need:
Cake mix (your choice and then eggs, oil, and water)
Keebler striped chocolate cookies
Hershey kisses
Cupcake liners
Optional: edible googly eyes
Frosting (here’s a great homemade frosting recipe that I always use)
Start by making the cupcakes according to the box. A little baking tip that I love is to bake the cupcakes at 400 degrees and shorten the time to bake for nice peaks which makes the cupcakes much easier to frost.
While the cupcakes are cooling, make the frosting and use food color about 3/4 of it green and 1/4 of it orange. I like to use the Wilton gel food coloring. I also made the frosting a little thicker by adding a little more powdered sugar to help the frosting hold it’s shape.
Now it’s time for the witch hats. Take the fudge cookies and using a small decorating tip, pipe some frosting around the center hole of the cookie. Then top with a Hershey Kiss.
This was fun for the kids to help. They unwrapped all the kisses – and of course ate a few. Then I piped the frosting and they put the kisses on top. Even my 19 month old was helping. They did a great job!
Now that the hats are done, using a larger decorating tip, frost the cupcakes with green frosting. Then using the grass tip and the orange frosting, add hair to the sides of the cupcakes.
If you want to put some cute little edible google eyes on your cupcakes, go ahead and add those now. I think they’re super cute either way. Then carefully place the hats on top of the frosting, pushing down slightly so they’ll stick. And they are done! Such fun cupcakes to celebrate Halloween and your kids are going to love these!
