RATING
This show soothes the piece of my heart that's still like "why isn't there more Firefly?" while also fist-bumping the piece of my heart that's like "Firefly was kind of racist and sexist tho." Just. Found family rebel criminals in space! A flawless setup! I also love the frame narrative of this show a LOT. I can't wait for the second season.
I really liked it! Brian and Krejjh are everything to me!! Really nice work, cant wait for more
Extremely cute podcast with very likeable characters. Found family on a spaceship, and that's the highest praise I can give
Outstanding characters and dialogues in a refreshing universe of a repressive regime and a more free society some time after a big war. Hooked from the first minutes on.
the main relationship is very compelling, and set up well by the excellent first episode. occasionally strays toward the cheesy, but overall it's endearing. i finished it in about a week! a really nice listen.
An amazing podcast about found family, warring factions, a police state, and good old fashioned gays in space.
Do you need to know more than the fact that this is very gay? Yes- it's brilliant and handles things like mental health in a way that makes my heart very happy
Hands down, my favorite podcast. So much potential here!
amazing plot, amazing character development, amazing relationships, iconic, my favourite
LISTEN TO THIS PODCAST! ITS SO GOOD! Its gay star trek. Just...listen to it.
Never fails to cheer me up! Complex and compelling characters, delightful sci-fi setting and concept of an alien culture. At this point I think I've recommended TSCOSI to everyone I know at least twice. Sad? Starship Iris. Happy? Starship Iris. Not sure yet? Starship Irisss!
Do you know that feeling when you pick up a good book and you can't put it down before you're done? Yeah? That was me with this podcast. Did I stay up half the night to finish s1? Possibly. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Did I create an account just to review the podcast? Yes. Now to actually review: The mystery set up in s1 was spectacular and gave me goosebumps multiple times. The characters are wondefully created (and Jeeter and Krejjh are one of the few romantic couples that my aspec ass actually enjoys instead of tolerates because they're just so. yeah. everything.)I love everyones found family dynamic, I love that every character has a unique backstory we get to learn more about as the story unfolds, and I love that even when the stakes are high, everyone is still a little chaotic and funny. And you can just feel that they care about each other so much. The worldbuilding is fun, between authoritarian regimes and space war to rebel against and the universe as a backdrop, there's not much that could go wrong. So yeah, go listen to this! I know I'll be doing that again because it's just so fun
Starship Iris is one of my favorite podcasts out right now! Inclusive, thoughtful, full of adventure and intrigue, and just plain fun. Check it out for yourself--you won't regret it!
I *adore* this hope punk podcast! I fell in love with Violet in the very first episode, and I love everyone else just as much! This pod is definitely marathon worthy!
I gave up on this show after Violet rationalizes that its okay to kill a guard who accidentally stepped into their mission by way of "It’s on everyone. And no one. And most of all, it’s on that guard, for buying into a system that would’ve seen us all killed or worse." I don't think the guard even understood why she died, events escalated so quickly, and so there's an unearned sanctimony to this dismissal of the murder that sticks in the craw. From Violet's mouth, it feels like a thesis statement by the show that you can choose to define the murder of anyone who opposes you as something they brought upon themselves. I try to keep in mind the gray morality of the show, and it still felt wrong and unnuanced in a show that wants the audience to sympathize with Arkady's own violent past and McCabe's ability to change her loyalties.
This show has become mandatory listening for sci fi audio drama fans, and for good reason! Starship Iris brings together so many fun story elements - criminal found family, heists, alien-human romances, found footage - but treats every character and twist of the plot with the attention to detail needed to make it a gripping listen. The VAs are all fantastic and each character brings something different to the table. There are so many funny and light-hearted moments among the drama that at times it feels like a slice of life show, it’s just that the lives of these characters are . . . intense. I love the intro music and always find myself singing along! I cannot wait for the next season!!
Fascinating premise and a great cast. Their insurgency against "The republic" does sometimes reveal the hand of the author.
This is a wonderfully made audio drama. The music is soothing. The characters are complex and well voiced. The sweet and tender relationships between Violet and Arkady as well as Violet and Sana.
This is a very good podcast with interesting characters and a fun plot. My biggest issue and what keeps me from giving it a 5 star rating is the reliance on a specific trope I hate, which is splitting the main cast. This show does this so regularly that I find the character relationships stunted as a direct result.
As much as I do enjoy this show, I struggle with some of the voice acting (particularly between differentiating between characters - I was pretty sure two of the characters were the same person for a while) but that's a personal gripe I guess. Otherwise really fun listen! Loving s2.
